Brief

This was a repeat client for Earth Designs, having moved from Hackney to Whitstable. The garden is split over two levels and is part of the basement conversion. The client wants to maximise the lower ground area of the space. She has very defined style and taste herself and loves the notion of an outdoor room.

Solution

This design is rooted in a tropical theme, as well as layering with lots of pattern and detail. The lower area is to be paved in wood effect porcelain tiles mirroring the interior. A raised bed cuffs the retaining wall in an ‘L’ shape and allows the opportunity for a fixed bench to be attached. The wall will be clad in beautiful metal wall tiles. Steps lead up to the rest of the garden which is very long and thin.

The first area is a second entertaining area which allows for more occasional seating and swing chairs. Three chunky timber half arches zigzag across this area providing a frame work for laser cut screens as well as a pick up point for a swing chair. An outdoor rug will also be laid in this area. The second two thirds of the area is divided by a further laser cut screen and this accommodates the children’s trampoline, lawn and two storage sheds.
