Dulwich Garden Design

Grow a Friendly Space

Brief

This London Garden Design client has recently moved from a penthouse in Wapping to a Hufhaus in Dulwich. This new family home comes with an inherited designed garden which the client would like to adapt. The large expanse of decking and seating needs to be made more interesting and the client would like to introduce more colour into the space.

Solution

The proposed design works with the existing bone structure of the garden. The current seating will be painted aubergine and the back rest capped with Travertine. Outdoor weatherproof cushions will also soften the appearance of this space and give the seats a stylish and welcoming feel. The existing decking will remain but will be broken up with the addition of cobbles and sempervivum apertures. Three separate Perspex panels attached to the existing fence in the left-hand boundary will help to mask the unsightly fence as well as provide a backdrop for the client to hang bespoke canvasses. Bespoke wooden shelving structure sited next to the existing seating helps to create a divide and vertical interest. This will comprise of Perspex clad or aggregate filled apertures or be left open to the view beyond. The area directly in front of this space will house the proposed new seating, the area behind will be lefty as lawn. The right hand border will see the addition of new flowering climbers. On the opposite side of the garden a small area of lawn will be retained, edge with setts. Two of the three Amelanchier will be retained to provide room for a willow igloo. The ground below will be covered in play bark.
