TROPICAL HACKNEY COURTYARD GARDEN DESIGN
Brief
This small sunny courtyard is very overlooked so needs some privacy. It needs more greenery and a low maintenance design. The client will make most use of it during the sunnier months but would also like it to be useable during the winter. They would like to keep the existing furniture if possible.
Solution
The courtyard will be re-paved with square Beige porcelain paving slabs laid in a grid pattern. Directly outside the back door will be a patterned porcelain slab inlay to create a rug style effect. To the right hand side of the space will be a flush planting bed outside the bedroom window, with corten weathered steel planter beside the back door. The boundary fences will be painted with Cuprinol Garden Shades ‘Black Ash’ and two corten steel decorative patterned screens fixed to the fence to create a stylish backdrop to the garden. Shade and privacy will be added with the inclusion of a large banana plant and tall palm.
Directly opposite the back door will be a corten steel water feature surrounded by pots adding further texture and colour to the space. On the left hand side will be a pergola constructed from black painted timber with laser cut corten steel panels installed as an overhead canopy to provide shade and additional privacy throughout the year. The client’s existing rattan furniture will be installed under the pergola.
