OUR ETHOS
Our aim is to provide our clients with a garden space that reflects their lifestyle and personality, making our work stylish and innovative without being intimidating. From our no-nonsense, ‘down to earth’ Garden Design Consultations to our After-Care Packages, we offer a total, ‘concept to creation’ design and build service to our clients.
We specialise in urban domestic back gardens, usually within London where space can be at a premium. In most cases we are required to create a garden that ticks many boxes: a green space; an extension of the home; an outdoor room; somewhere to relax; to entertain; to accommodate animals (and children); something to treasure; a practical space with storage solutions; an inviting environment in which to escape from the hurly burly of the London city life.
From courtyards to country gardens, we have a varied and dynamic style with which we strive to produce something unique and personal for each of our clients.
Over the past few years we have received numerous calls from people beyond our immediate catchment area interested in commissioning an Earth Designs garden. In response to this we have developed a popular postal garden design service, meaning that no matter where you are in the world we are still able to deliver that special Earth Designs magic. Earth Designs are full members of the British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) and the Association of Professional Landscapers (APL), and are a Registered Practice with the Society of Garden Designers, giving you piece of mind that our work is carried out to the highest professional standards.

Katrina Kieffer-Wells – MSGD
HEAD OF Garden Design
Earth Designs was formed by Katrina Wells in Spring 2003. Katrina has been a keen gardener since childhood and worked as a florist for many years. After graduating from university in 1998 with a degree in Creative Arts, Katrina went to work as a producer for a prestigious design and events company based in London’s West End. She left in 2002 and decided to couple her love and knowledge of gardening with her creative skills and experience of event management. Earth Designs was born. Since then Katrina and her husband Matt have grown Earth Designs into a successful company with over 230 designs and 90 builds under their belt.
Katrina will usually be the first person you meet from the Earth Designs team. Unlike many other garden designers, she has a hands-on, dynamic style allowing the client to become very much a part of the design process. On paper she will work your garden into a magical place before handing it over to the rest of the team to implement the design. Her work has featured in various national newspapers and lifestyle publications over the years.
Matt Kieffer-Wells
HEAD OF Garden BUILD
Matt manages projects from the contractual stage to completion – co-ordinating all contractors, suppliers and staff on-site and acting as the first port of call for the client. He has constructed or overseen almost all the projects Earth Designs have undertaken and has developed an excellent working knowledge of most aspects of garden construction, including material selection, construction techniques and on-site problem solving.
Earth Designs has six other employees on site and in the studio. Our on-site team will usually consist of a Site Manager, Assistant Site Manager and 1 or 2 landscape gardeners. Work undertaken ‘in-house’ includes hard and soft garden landscaping, structural design, lighting design and water features. Other services, such as tree surgery and electrical installation, are out-sourced to specially selected professionals.
