Garden Design Ealing
Earth Designs have years of experience working on all kinds of garden design in Ealing. We are a skilled and reliable team of local garden designers and landscapers. On this page, we will take you through the process of designing specifically a family garden in Ealing.
Brief
The clients recently extended the house and are now turning their attentions to the back garden. The small space is being well used by the family, but has little to offer aesthetically. The brief is for a family garden design in Ealing that includes an area for growing vegetables, as well as a place for relaxing and the children to play. This family garden design aims to provide the family with a usable courtyard style space.
Solution
Deep decking steps from the back door will allow safe entry into the garden. The existing outside tap will be moved to the right hand side of the back door, allowing for the construction of a decking bench seat beneath the kitchen window.
Part of this seat will be hinged to allow access to the existing drain and manhole cover, and to provide a storage area (not waterproof) below. A shallow railway sleeper raised bed with a space underneath will be constructed between the bench seat and decked steps.
The space beneath this bed will allow storage of a small self-contained sandpit, installed on casters hand for easy manoeuvring. The sleeper bed along the left side of the garden will be reconstructed using the existing sleepers, and made slightly longer and deeper. The existing tree will remain.
An artificial lawn in the centre of the space will provide a soft surface for play and relaxation. The back of the space will feature a simple rectangular timber pergola frame which would allow myriad possibilities for outdoor fun – a swing, a hammock, or simply covered with a sheet to turn it into a garden den.
As a backdrop to the space, thin metal wall tiles will be attached to a sheet of exterior ply to provide a Moroccan twist and colour through the winter months. The Moroccan theme will be emphasised by a Moroccan water feature installed in the right hand corner of the garden.
Planting predominantly feature climbers, peonies and a few long flowering perennials. Where possible the client’s existing vegetables will be replanted in the new beds.
