Free Garden Design Advice – Small Garden Design

garden design

This sketch is a small garden design for a new build garden in Liverpool. The clients have been living in the house for a couple of years but since having a baby they are keen to maximise the tiny outdoor space to create a family space. They contacted us Earth Designs to get some ideas for how to improve this outdoor area. Measuring just 3m x 3.5m, the space is extremely limited, so we suggested fixed bench seating with hinged lids to make the most economical use of space and provide much needed storage underneath. A table with adjustable legs can be converted from dining table to coffee table-style, in which position it can also be pushed neatly into the corner to align with the bench seat to create a daybed/recliner.

Planting would be principally climbers or a vertical garden, around the edge of the space. A bespoke bike store on the left side of the garden, constructed from hardwood planks to make it as aesthetically pleasing as possible, would also provide storage for children’s toys with the inclusion of a small cupboard on top. Artificial lawn in the centre of the space would offer maximum play area for including paddling pools, etc. A raised planter would provide a small plot for growing vegetables, while the inclusion of a sandpit adds the final touch to this small family garden design.
