GREENWICH GARDEN DESIGN

Grow a Friendly Space

Brief

The client is planning to have work done to the interior of the property and would like to include the garden in the works.

There is a modern garden office at the back of the garden.

The client wants a space suitable for entertaining with a lush, green feel and some lawn.

They would also like to create a sundeck on the roof of the existing air raid shelter.

Solution

Directly outside the new extension will be a small porcelain patio, with shallow steps to join the main garden. An outdoor sofa will be positioned in the area to the right of the air raid shelter structure. This area will be partially enclosed by a timber pergola with steel tubes as the overhead canopy. The porcelain paving will contain a patterned porcelain tiled insert in the centre of the space to create decorative feature. A large flowerbed creates the backdrop to this area and features a corten weathered steel wall and an oversize planter to create a stunning focal point in the space. A porcelain tiled pathway will dogleg down the garden, past a new composite decking step leading to a decked platform installed on the roof of the air raid shelter structure. This platform will be enclosed with glass balustrade for safety. The space beneath the decked steps will be used for storage.

The centre of the garden will contain lawn with a flush bed to the left and pathway down the right-hand side of the garden which leads to a raised corten steel bed in front of the existing garden office. Planting in the space will be pink and white with a bold tropical and architectural theme.
