Inspiring garden design for the uninspiring

garden design

Brief

The garden is predominantly paved with old uninspiring concrete slabs and has little of interest to offer.

This means the clients rarely use the space and they would like an inspiring garden design that provides the adults with an attractive yet practical solution, suitable for entertaining and relaxing as well as accommodating the needs of their young son.

Solution

To the right of the patio doors will be a large bespoke bar top that has integrated storage beneath, large enough to house two adult bikes, with a tall slim cupboard along the right-hand boundary to store a folding table and chairs, as well as cushions for the outdoor sofa. A timber structure constructed over the bar unit will incorporate a bar wine rack, shelving for glasses and a decorative outdoor light to make the bar come to life a night. The front of the bar and cupboard will be clad with Perspex from the ‘Naturals’ range.

The back will be a patio constructed from contemporary porcelain tiles, positioned to catch the afternoon sun. The boundaries will be replaced with modern horizontal slatted fences, painted with Cuprinol Garden Shades’ ‘urban slate’ and reflect that stylish, contemporary, inspiring garden design.

A mirror will be placed at the back of the garden edge. The right side of the area will feature a square timber pergola, which could accommodate a swing chair and barbecue.

The planting scheme will be architectural with as much year-round greenery as possible.

A tall cordyline Australis will add height and an established feel to the inspiring garden design.

A large artificial lawn in the middle of the inspiring garden design allows for play and sunbathing whilst giving a space a splash of low maintenance greenery.

Colours such as ‘urban slate’ and ‘natural garden’ are proposed to give that modern feel.

A plethora of greenery will feature around the edges of the garden, with touches of white and pale pinks will break up the architectural materials throughout.
