This design for a typical London garden takes the strong shape of The New Look and transfers it into a garden design which combines soft and hard landscaping. The feeling of luxury comes from the brick sett paving terrace with the creeping thyme insets to add extra interest to the ground. The bold curve of the patio echoes the structured look that was present in this fashion and the expanse of terrace is also reminiscent of Christian Dior’s seminal look. Large enough to accommodate a BBQ, loungers and a table and chairs the terrace would suit a small space that requires lawn as well as hard standing.
The lawn stretches out down the rest of the garden with quirky box balls lining down the middle to add depth to the space and again aid the sense of structure and form to the garden design. Planting in the space would ideally be monochrome black Sambucus and Heuchera alongside Pittosporum ‘Tom Thumb’ and other structured shrubs. The overall feel of this garden is one of a bold simple design holding form and structure at its central core.
