Modern Garden Design Presentation

A garden for maturing kids and adults!

garden design

Brief

This client has lived in their house in Lewisham for a number of years. Their two sons are approaching their teenage years so the client would like a South London garden designer to transform their garden into a space which the entire family can enjoy. There is a large mature oak tree within the garden which they wish to retain and access to the sports fields at the bottom of the garden. They want to include plenty of space for their sons to relax and enjoy the outdoors as well as some adult spaces as well.

Solution

The design breaks the garden up into several areas. A shallow decked area spanning the width of the garden adjoining the house will spread out on the right hand side of the garden to allow space for a dining table and chairs. A deep planting bed along the front of the deck will feature five oak cubes placed to add structure and dramatic interest. A timber storage unit will be installed in the side return for the family bikes.

Cut-outs in the decking will feature bold specimen plants, with further architectural planting continuing within the planting bed along the right-hand boundary. A sandstone path leads down the garden to the existing oak tree, through a real grass lawn on the left hand side.

A second patio area for seating and entertaining will be installed in the bottom left side of the space, which will feature a contemporary pergola with decorative screen detailing. This area will feature a fire pit with oak cubes placed for seating, with further seating provided by a railway sleeper sofa nestled in the planting bed. The oak tree will accommodate a hanging chair for informal relaxation. At the back of the space will be an activities area with a table tennis table and trampoline. The planting is architectural and bold, with block planting throughout the space, adding to the modern contemporary feel of the garden.
