GARDEN DESIGN EAST LONDON
BRIEF
DESCRIPTION
We decided to introduce paving to the space. The client wanted to retain the hedge running along the front boundary. We included some height by using an Acer palmatum ‘Bloodgood’. We needed to address people cutting across the driveway to the front door so designed two large railway sleeper raised beds to discourage people from accessing the front there. Paving was installed across the whole space – Indian sandstone. To create a low maintenance option that was sympathetic with the age of the property. Evergreen shrubs were the main focus of the planting with the emphasis on leaf colour, shape and texture to provide year round interest and shape. Interspersed with long flowering perennials provide seasonal interest and pops of colour as the year progresses. The main feature of the space was a modern twist on a traditional Victorian tiles pathway. A bold geometric black and white design pathway lead up the bright yellow door, which nods toward the traditional architecture of the house but with a quirky twist.
