Treetop Adventures

Grow a Friendly Space

A must do trip for us here at Earth Designs is a visit to Alnwick Gardens. This Northumberland Garden is home to the stunning Alnwick Treehouse, designed in 2004 by Napper Architects. With a full restaurant and kitchen, private function rooms, bar, large outdoor deck and wheelchair friendly walkways to ground level, this breathtakingly huge treehouse is the largest in Britain and one of the biggest in the world.

From what we have seen on the web, we could shower this amazing garden building with superlatives all day long. However, we’ll just let the owners speak for themselves:

“The enormous and beautifully crafted Treehouse is built from Canadian cedar, Scandinavian redwood and English and Scots pine, from sustainable resources. It’s high in the treetops in a copse of mature lime trees, and looks as if it’s been there forever.

There are walkways in the sky and wobbly rope bridges for bouncing on, and it’s all accessible by wheelchair and buggy. On The Treehouse’s deck there’s the Roost, one of The Garden’s education rooms, showing films and with activities at certain times of the year.

At the heart of The Treehouse is one of the most beautiful and unique restaurants to be found anywhere in the world. There’s a roaring log fire in the centre of the room, trees growing through the floor, handcrafted furniture and screens created from fallen branches. Most importantly, the l ocally-inspired food is delicious. At the top of The Treehouse is the Nest, a hideaway for private dining and small parties, and out on the deck there’s The Treehouse bar, serving drinks into the evening.”
