Brief

This property is to undergo extensive renovation, including an extension to the rear.

The current layout of the garden makes it difficult to use due to acute slopes from back to front and from left to right.

The client is keen to create a more useable family space, with a gradual terraced layout to avoid having an imposing retaining wall close to the house.

They would like areas for entertaining and relaxing and a level lawn.

A water feature, outdoor kitchen and pergola would also be welcome additions.

Solution

Directly outside the back doors will be a patio. To the left of the space a large raised bed and retaining wall. I will be at its highest point. Stairs run in parallel to the house will feature a water feature trough set with copper pipes facing the house. To the right of the space, the patio will deepen and incorporate a wooden bench which also doubles up as a step. The steps lead up to the main dining area which is covered by a steel pergola. An outdoor kitchen full of the backdrop of this space which is paved with porcelain tiles.

Another set of steps continues up towards the rear of the garden where are decked area will be placed under the existing Silverbirch. This will be incorporated into a rendered raised bed. Add screening to this area, the bed to the right hand side field with laser cut screens will help with privacy from the neighbouring upstairs property.

Lawn fills most of the right-hand side of the garden. At the top, the front of the garage, the lawn will be levelled. Due to the height of the ground, going up on the right hand side, each trees will extend the height of the fence line and raised bed against the garage wall cope with the difference in height. Steps Lee back down to the area next to the dining area. A deep bed in between the two loans will have stayed trees, again 18 privacy to both areas from neighbouring houses. Coming back down to the lower patio, one of the steps for the decked, which turned into an occasional seat for a folding table and chairs. All of the raised beds will be cleared with a porcelain cladding solution.
