WILDLIFE GARDEN DESIGN IN LEIGH ON SEA

Grow a Friendly Space

Brief

The client has recently renovated the interior of this inherited property. They require a low maintenance garden with a broad appeal for the rental market. The material quality and detail finish should reflect the standard of the interior renovation. The patio should be large enough to accommodate separate seating and dining areas. Attention is needed to the boundaries around the entire space.

Solution

The client has recently renovated this property with a view to placing it on the rental market. The interior has been finished to a high specification and they would like to create an exterior space to match.

Directly adjoining the house will be a large patio spanning the width of the garden, laid with 900mm x 600mm porcelain paving slabs. To the left hand side will be the main dining area, featuring an L-shaped fixed bench seat and slatted half pergola structure finished with smooth planed Sapele hardwood boards. A concrete block wall retaining wall, finished with elegant Design Clad large format porcelain sheets, will divide the two levels of the garden, with paved steps leading to the upper level. The rear section of the garden will comprise a large rectangular artificial lawn surrounded by planting beds, with a sentry-style timber storage unit in the bottom left hand corner.

The garden boundaries will be finished with a variety of decorative treatments. The fences along the left hand boundary will be replaced and clad with sheets of Perspex from the ‘Naturals’ range. The rear boundary will feature bespoke horizontal cladding comprising smooth Red Grandis hardwood slats on a treated softwood timber frame. Contemporary softwood slatted panels will be installed to the front of the existing walls along the right hand boundary and painted with dark grey Cuprinol Garden Shades ‘Urban Slate’.

The planting scheme is designed to require minimal ongoing maintenance, focussing mainly on evergreen shrubs with a few long flowering herbaceous perennials.
